Do you Halloween?
I do and don’t. Have kind of a love-hate relationship with it.
We got lucky for the past 10 years. Our kids have been satisfied with our tradition of going to their grandparents’ house and handing out their treats.
But this year, they said, they wanted to go out for a bit of actual trick or treating.
(Can you believe we lasted 10 years!!??)
Anyway, with some ground rules—we would not do more than one street, and they would not ever eat all their candy—it ended up being pretty great.
Everyone got what they wanted.
The takeaway: boundaries and managed expectations can make something that seems precarious work.
Here’s a pic I took whilst out that captured the exact way I feel about all the people and the candy and the weirdness and the chatting.
My in-laws’ neighbour’s house is always the brightest on the street. |
With wild staring eyes,
James
P.S. The buildup yesterday and today (costumes, supplies, pumpkins, etc.) had me so exhausted I debated just pointing to my post about taking a mulligan and calling it a day, lol.
