A few days ago, I wrote to ask you how you would explain what you do to a 6-year-old. I got some good answers 🙂
(If you haven’t taken up the challenge, the offer still stands to send me your explanation if that’s helpful to you!)
Friend, colleague, and friend of the list, Amy Beardsley — Insurance and Technology Writer and Content Strategist — sent me an excellent 6-year-old-themed explanation of what she does.
(And it works for most marketers, too, I’d say.)
Here it is, shared with permission:
Imagine you have a lemonade stand.
You want to tell people, like your friends and family, about your delicious lemonade so that they come and buy it. But you also want to make sure they like the taste of your lemonade so they’re happy and want to buy more.
That’s what I do.
I write fun stories and use special words to help companies tell everyone about the things they make or do. When people read these stories, they get excited and want to learn more about the company and what they have to offer.
That’s when the company gets more customers who really like what they do and want to be a part of it.
So, in a way, I help companies find new friends who will love what they have to offer, just like you can find new friends who will love your lemonade.
Making lemonade,
James
