Have you ever had one of those moments where you know you’ve done a great job of getting your point across? Where telling and selling are one and the same?
It doesn’t happen every time, but when it does, it’s that proverbial lightning in a bottle.
Now wouldn’t it be nice to have that on tap?
Well, it’s Tactical Tuesday (literally the only semblance of order in this newsletter :). So, I thought I’d share a personal tactic I use to preserve that bottled lightning.
It’s dead simple.
It requires nothing more than your existing email account and the ability to copy and paste. (And to remember to copy and paste.) Better yet, you can even institute it after the fact, as long as you don’t delete your sent emails.
I call it “Replies on Draft.”
(That’s not true…I’ve never called it anything.)
It’s this. When you realize you’ve written a particularly good pitch, follow-up, introductory, or proposal email, make a copy before you hit send. Then paste it into a new email draft with a subject line that will help you remember what makes it so great.
You can also do it after getting a positive response. In fact, that might be smarter. But I do a lot based on gut feelings, so I’m good with knowing it when I see it.
Over time, your drafts folder – easy to access when writing – becomes a repository of the best of your best messaging.
