If you are working for a business as a contractor, selling your services and expertise, courageous objectivity is one of your greatest assets.

To tackle the terms in reverse:

Objectivity

Your ability to have a more or less neutral stance on business decisions. You have no real ties to past decisions, no business political affiliation, and no career aspirations to cloud your judgment. You can speak the truth.

Courageous

Your ability to be contrarian due to your position as an expert. You don’t need to worry about being a team player, and you don’t need to maintain long-term office relationships with people. You can speak the truth.

I came across the term on this episode of the 2Bobs podcast. (I’m in the midst of some serious 2Bobs bingeing – highly recommended.)

The episode is called Your Four Advantages Over an In-House Department.

And courageous objectivity is one of the four advantages.

The best one, in my opinion.

Because your job is to speak the truth.

And that’s my favourite thing to do.

Courageously,
James
