When you say yes to something (anything), you’re implicitly (and sometimes explicitly) saying no to something else (usually many things).
This is a concept that I think about as often as I can manage.
Every yes is also a nest of noes.
True in business, true in a restaurant, true in a day, true in a year.
If you say yes to using WordPress for your website, you’re saying no to Webflow, Squarespace, and (many) others.
If you say yes to the Thai Green Curry, you’re saying no to the Pad Thai.
If you say yes to that early morning writing session, you’re saying no to that early morning workout.
If you say yes to your theme for the year being Intention, you’re saying no to your theme for the year being Come What May (probably – themes for the year are notoriously malleable).
One caveat: This only really holds true for the present moment (and in hindsight). The future might surprise you with things you thought were noes that end up being yesses and vice versa.
What’s a yes you recently made for your business that implied a bunch of noes?
Yessing and knowing,
James
P.S. Btw, the acceptable plurals of no are “nos” and “noes.” I checked.
P.P.S. “Btw” means “by the way,” by the way. (I don’t know your life!!)
