Sometimes, when you want to reach back out to someone, all it takes is nine* words.
This is a concept from the great ex-pat Canadian marketer Dean Jackson. It’s a deliciously easy way to maximize efficiency on things like re-starting conversations. (Or starting new conversations with someone who expects emails from you.)
There’s no waffling about “remember when we were last talking…” or “you may not remember me, but…”. None of it.
There’s only this:
Body: Are you still looking for THING-THAT-YOU-OFFER?
And then you hit send.
It’s almost impossible for NAME not to answer that email. And even if they’re not still looking for THING-THAT-YOU-OFFER, now you’re in a conversation (and you can see if you might be able to help them with OTHER-THING-THAT-YOU-OFFER).
Or maybe you’ll end up having a chat and becoming friends. Who knows?
The point is, if you’ve got someone you dropped the ball on, a 9-word email is a proven, anxiety-free way to re-connect. It can literally take you seconds to get done.
And I’m hard-pressed to think of anything much easier than that in my business.
Try-it-on-me-some-day,
James
P.S. * It doesn’t have to be exactly nine words…anywhere from, say, 7-13 will work 😉
