Do you get a lot of snow where you are?

Here in Fredericton, it snows often. And often, when it snows, it snows a lot.

I distinctly remember the time, about 8 years ago, Kayte and I woke up to our first big dumping of snow as homeowners.

We were admiring the winter wonderland our property had become when we realized that – for the first time in our lives – no parents or landlords would be coming to take care of it. If we wanted our driveway back, we would have to dig.

And dig, we did.

For four years, we dug. (We took breaks for spring, summer, and fall.)

Our driveway’s long and narrow, with no clearance on either side. It can take up to three hours to clear if the snowfall’s significant.

One time, as I sweated my way into hour two, I looked up to see our neighbour’s plow guy arrive. Rather than waving, as I normally would, I dropped my shovel (likely in disgust) and flagged him down. I asked, How much to do our drive too? And could he do it today?

He said $35 per clearing, and yes.

We’ve just entered our fifth winter with Rick Burns and his big orange tractor as our snow-removal saviour. When I think of all the time we’ve saved, I get short of breath.

And that’s the power of hiring a specialist, with specialist tools.

Something to think about, the next time you’re joylessly fiddling with something in your life or business that someone else could do more efficiently.

Orange tractors ahoy,
