Sometimes when I write an email (or a text message, or a section of copy for a landing page) I start out by setting the scene. I like to make sure I’ve got the context just right.
And then I get to the point.
And it flows.
And the hits keep on coming.
By the time I get to the end, something in me (my programming from years of forced, in-the-box learning education? my constant worry that I’ll be misunderstood if I don’t reiterate myself a few times?) …something, anyway, insists I sum things up.
So I re-state my point, in a slightly different way.
But then, when I look at what I’ve written, I realize that both the context-setting and the summary are unnecessary.
I could have started later and I could have stopped earlier.
Like this,
James
