Have you ever set your sights on something and then proceeded to miss the mark over and over again, eventually giving up in frustration?

Whether that’s moving into a new market, testing a new way to generate leads, launching a new product, or trying to make fetch happen – the failure hurts all the same.

But what if the problem isn’t in the way you’re trying to get it done?

What if it’s not your approach, skill, or intensity that needs adjusting?

So, we bought our son (9.5 yrs) a bow, arrows, and a target for Christmas this year. Yes, and watching him trying to wrangle a decent shot out of it put this in my mind.

He was out there, pulling with all his might, elbow low, elbow high, back bent, chest out… desperately trying to look down the arrow at the target, which was sitting on the ground about 20 feet away.

No matter what, his shots were going high and wide. Nothing was hitting.

Then we realized: he’s not yet tall enough to shoot down at the target like I was doing. The target was in the wrong place. We needed to move it up the hill a bit.

It wasn’t the angle of approach that needed adjusting; it was what we were trying to hit.

Sometimes, you just need to move the target.
