For the longest time, whenever I heard the word Ohio, I would think of two things (both exclamations):
1 – The very ending of the opening credits to The Drew Carey Show.
2 – The way cheery septuagenarian hikers greet you in Japan IF you are up in time to be on the trail before, say, 8 am.
(Laggards like myself who attempt to use the term – actually “Ohayo” (おはよう) – at such long-past-the-true-morning times as 9 or, heavens, 10 am, are, I’ve found, sweetly giggled at.)
BUT, sometime recently (very likely when reading this post from friend of the list, Kevin Freidberg), I added a third, more practical association.
OHIO = Only Handle It Once.
A brilliant way to spend less time faffing about. With dishes, email, meetings (that’s what Kevin’s email focuses on), purchases…etc.
For me, the biggest one is email.
I don’t open an email or let it take up any mental real estate until I have time to handle it. And then, I open it, read it, and deal with it.
Dealing with it means either responding, making a to-do, or copying it into my PKM (Personal Knowledge Management) system. (A topic for another day.)
And no, I’ve never been to…
OHIO!
James
P.S. For my PKM system I use Obsidian. That’s where I collect, organize, and analyze my thoughts, making them into notes. Many of which are now One Creative Moments emails.
Me, hiking the Japan Alps, probably not in the morning. |
