One of the best ways to increase interest in something you’re doing is to get the people you are doing it for involved before “the big day.”

An example of this that’s on my mind right now comes from musicians extraordinaire, and friends of the list, Shannon Curtis and Jamie Hill.

For a while now, they’ve been semi-regularly releasing covers of songs from their 80s childhood that they’ve always wanted to record.

They’re collecting them on an album called 80s kids and it is a delight!

But one of the best parts of the whole thing is the buildup to each release—and the current one is a doozy.

At the start of release week, Shannon posts an announcement and a clue. She gives us personalized and yet still figureoutable hints about what the song might be.

Here’s Shannon from earlier this week:

“The title of this song was the theme chosen by the student prom committee for my high school prom — I think it was senior year?

But there was a controversy. Because at the time, there were two popular songs that shared this title, and it was an open question which song was the real inspiration for the prom theme.

… For me, the choice between the two was obvious. Like, no contest. And here we are, 32 years later, and I’m once again staking my claim. “

GAH!!

I’ve spent well over an hour researching and digging around.

(Do you have any guesses?)

Joyfully enthralled,
James

P.S. If you’re new here, no, your mind is not playing tricks on you. You didn’t miss an email on Monday or Tuesday. Sometimes on this list, we take mulligans. And we’re all right with that 🙂
