A short one today for Tactical Tuesday, but one that matters a lot (to me).
It’s this: when you’re setting up a survey, opt-in, or checkout form, and you want to collect an email address, use an email-specific field.
Not a single-line, “write-anything-you-like-in-here” open text field.
But rather an “only-an-email-address-can-go-in-here” field.
Why?
Because when your excited prospect is eagerly filling out your form on their mobile device – unwilling, even, to wait until they get inside their house (or out of the bathroom) – the keyboard that will open on their phone when they click inside that beautiful, purpose-built little field will have not only the “@” symbol but also the “.” available to them without having to go to the punctuation layer of their keyboard.
And that alone could make the difference between them filling out your form or deciding to wait until later (which often means never).
I, at least, will be delighted.
With happy texting thumbs,
James
