Did you have an enjoyable holiday pause? Get enough downtime?

I hope you did.

I feel like I did. But I also feel like I never do, never can.

Something to work on, for sure.

So, I mostly checked out of biz life on Dec 15 (lucky me!), and in so doing, promptly stopped writing/sending One Creative Moments. Sorry about that.

I regret having so unceremoniously dumped you on the doorstep of the holidays.

If I’m honest, I started getting so overwhelmed with Finish Strong, Year-End Review, My Top 1000 ___’s of 2023 posts and emails that I just couldn’t.

(Same with the top half of this week, hence reappearing on the First Friday.)

But/And, a large part of my problem is that I lack systems.

Systems that help me stay focused on doing what my smart, slow-brain self decided was a great idea. And doing those things in the way that said self reckoned was the way to do them.

As such, my theme for the year is “Systems, slack, and doing hard things.”

Systems – Looking for places to set up systems and doing so.

Slack – Remembering to build slack into each system. And cutting myself slack for not following them all the time (or perfectly).

Hard things – Thanks to friend of the list, Achim Rothe, for inspiring this addition. All the systems (and slack) in the world won’t move me forward unless I’m using them to do hard things. (A topic for another day.)

Systemic slacker,
James

P.S. Is setting up systems your thing this year, too? Then why not join me in taking Jonathan Stark’s 10-Day Systems Challenge? The first lesson drops on Monday!
