Are you experienced?

So much for open-ended questions!

Here’s something that rolls around my head from time to time. (And apologies if you’ve heard it before and are thinking, “yeah, yeah, James… that old chestnut.”)

When a person says they have seven years of experience, what do they really mean?

Have they had seven years of experience? Or have they had one year of experience, seven times?

They look the same on paper, but they’re worlds apart.

And it’s worth knowing what they mean.
