Have you ever wondered how people stay consistent with regular writing practices?
(I assume this works for painting, drawing, dancing, rapping, weaving, etc, too.)
It’s by keeping it short and stopping when time’s up, not when you’re “done.” (Because you’ll never be “done.”)
My subject line is what Seinfeld told his daughter when she told him she was planning to spend a whole day writing.
“Write for an hour and walk away.”
That’s it. That’s the trick, the whole trick, to consistent creation.
I’ve heard Hemingway, too, suggested always stopping when you have more to say.
Incompletely,
James
P.S. Hat tip to friend of the list Kevin Freidberg for bringing this wonderful line into my life in his piece on the subject.
P.P.S. The Hemingway quote is: “…stop when you are going good and when you know what will happen next…”.
