In fact, I’d go so far as to say I hope it makes you cringe 🙂

You know those moments where you look or think back on your past self (sometimes your not-too-distant past self) and just shake your head?

“Oof, did I really do/say/post that?!”

Or even those moments in the present where you think, “Well, this makes me feel like a huge dork, but I’m gonna do it anyway.”

This is the cringe of which I speak.

It’s terrible, and yet so important because it signals growth; it’s the only way we learn.

And none know this better than fellow newsletterer and friend of the list, Isabel Sterne, who writes the fantastic Substack, Cringe Letter.

Yes, and there’s no better time to embrace the Cringe with me than now.

Why? Because Isabel’s on a short break and is in the middle of a wonderful series of enviously-well-researched pieces on the history, psychology, and meaning of each color of the rainbow.

It starts with this piece, introducing the series.

From there, you can catch up on Red (crushed insects in Doritos!), Orange (the fruit got its name first!), and Yellow (they rolled out the yellow carpet in Imperial China!).

And then wait, in envious anticipation, for what comes next.

Cringe-worthy,
James
