Not to be that “newsletter recommending” guy, having just yesterday drawn your attention to a new one I’m enjoying. But this has to be done and has to be done now.

(I had meant to do it before the start date! But, life…)

So I’m sharing this in case you would also find it interesting: Craig Mod’s latest pop-up newsletter, “The Return to Pachinko Road.”

It’s, as Craig puts it, “…an 18-day pop-up walk, walking 600km from Kyoto to Tokyo along the Tōkaidō (“Pachinko Road”). Starting on May 14, 2024 and finishing on June 2, 2024. Emails will be used only for this list. This list will then self-destruct.”

I can’t get enough of these.

I can’t tell how I’d feel if Kayte and I hadn’t lived in Japan (in Nagoya, situated between Kyoto and Tokyo and very much on the Tōkaidō). I know that’s a large part of its appeal.

But I also love the idea of an ephemeral pop-up newsletter.

Of an intense, time-bound burst of physical and creative energy.

That I’m getting the daily missives as Craig passes out at his hotel room each night, resting up for the next day of walking and thinking and picture-taking.

There’s the content. Then there’s the concept.

In this case, I am enthralled by both.

But it’s the concept that has me so jazzed. What could I do that’s like this? What could you?

Ephemerally,
James
