If you’re squeamish about going to the doctor’s, you’re not alone.

Even before COVID, I was never a fan of the vibe. Uninspired waiting rooms. Tonnes of viruses and infections that are itching to make my acquaintance. The hurry-up-and-wait policy that means I can’t be late, and they can’t not.

For me, it’s an “avoid at all costs” situation.

Today, a wonderful thing happened to me. One which I had to share with you.

I’ve been having some eye pains lately. (Not wonderful.) And Kayte convinced me today that I ought to call the doctor.

But here’s the wonderful part: she meant the optometrist!

In contrast to the family doctor’s, the optometrist’s is friendlier and less crowded. It’s nicer to be in (they have to move glasses too). It’s scheduled with more predictability (so rarely any waiting). And it’s far less full of people experiencing sickness.

What’s more, they have all the necessary equipment. They’re exceedingly competent in their one area of treatment. And the intake procedure is much more streamlined as a result.

Post-appointment, I’m confident in their diagnosis that eye drops and a couple of weeks are all I need. (Not the eyepatch solution I’d catastrophized in my head.)

So, why is all this true?

Because the optometrist is a specialist!

They’ve niched down to only eyes.

Which made it better for me.

The eyes have it,
