Here’s something delightful for your weekend. Earlier this year, I subscribed to the free version of Ted Gioia’s newsletter, The Honest Broker. (No, not that kind of broker. A broker of ideas, of culture.) Yes, and his most recent piece had some music recommendations. Most notably, “Masked Indian Psychedelic Groove Trio” Glass Beams—a Melbourne-based, instrumental, guitar, bass, and drum outfit—playing their newly released EP, Mahal, in its entirety in this beguiling, mysterious, beautifully set-decorated and filmed video. Note: I’ve “cued up the tape” to the start of the title track, as it’s the most compelling entry point. But, I wholly recommend starting at the very beginning (a very good place to start). They create what is somewhere described (very accurately!) as “serpentine psychedelia with cosmic instrumentation and worldly polyrhythms.” Which, for me, makes for perfect flow-state music. Recommended for working (on daily emails, for example). Groovily, P.S. Thank you for the interesting answers to yesterday’s email. I am working through them (I will answer you!) and plan to write a follow-up soon. |
