If you were ever going to suddenly end a mailing list, this would be the subject line on which to do it.

I’m not, by the way. Ending this mailing list.

The thought simply occurred to me after deciding it was going to be the subject line of today’s piece.

Why? Because today was my official last weekly call with my business coach of the past two years, Ed Gandia.

In this modern world of recurring meetings, the idea of something ending almost seems off.

But it was time. We both knew it.

Discussing this at dinner, my kids’ reaction was interesting. They both were sure that now I would never need a coach again.

That one reaches a point where you know it all.

But it’s the opposite that’s true. The deeper you get into a field, the more coaching you need.

Because you see that there’s a world of expertise in each piece of the puzzle. The minutiae contain multitudes, and there’s someone you can learn from for each of them.

The more you learn, the more you realize you don’t know.

Theatrically,
James

P.S. The subject line comes from The Winter’s Tale. It is famously the most (only?) interesting stage direction in the entirety of Shakespeare’s plays.

P.P.S. Thank you SO MUCH to all who answered my call for feedback yesterday. I was, I am, overwhelmed with gratitude and will get back to you in short order.
