Or, as an alternate subject line to this piece: Misteaks happen.

Yesterday, I sent out my very first broken links since beginning One Creative Moment just over a year ago. (Or at least the first ones anyone told me about—thanks Oli and Chris!)

Funnily enough, I had just read two posts from separate people about their recent experiences with mistakes and decided to write about it.

Amanda Natividad, VP of Marketing at SparkToro, wrote about how she sent the wrong link to their 70,000 email subscribers.

Ton Wesseling, co-founder of Online Dialogues, wrote about how they decided to fly a branded flag at their recent Conversion Hotel conference, even though the printers had screwed up and left the bleed lines and printing instructions in the printed final!

Here’s what Ton has to say on the subject of mistakes:

“A culture that fears mistakes is a culture that stifles innovation and growth. We open doors to unexpected solutions and creative thinking by embracing our errors.”

I couldn’t agree more.

My mistake, for example, put me back in touch with Unbounce co-founder Oli Gardner, whom I haven’t connected with in years. Wouldn’t have happened without those broken links.

Unmistakenly,
James
