Have you spent time on something important to you today yet?
Have you planned your day? (Or reviewed your day, if you’re getting this at the end of yours?)
If you have a regular session of creative or deep work scheduled, has it already happened? Or is reading this (and whatever else the world has thrown your way) jumping the queue and blocking that (much) more important work?
For what it’s worth, I’d hate nothing more than for this email to act as a form of procrastination.
It’s Monday morning as I write this, and in what is, sadly, a relatively rare occurrence, I have made it all the way to writing this piece without checking my email. Or the news (even worse). Or social media (worse still).
A good practice, which I recommend (and try really hard to follow myself), is to not leave “your own world” for as long as you possibly can every day.
From the moment you wake up, try to stay in your own thoughts, your own ideas, your own view of what’s important until you’ve done at least one creative thing. (Meaning, in this case, literally creating something, anything. From a doodle of a daisy to a perfect cup of tea to a manifesto on your unique worldview.)
Doing this will train you to place greater value on yourself and your opinions.
Which is important because you’re great 🙂
You do you,
James
