Do you have a problem with cookies? I do.

No, not that kind of cookies. (Though, if we wanted to get into it, them too.)

I mean digital cookies. The ones “we all” got Google and the like to add to our website user’s browsers. The ones we use for analytics, or ads, or — in some rare cases — to “enable a better website experience.”

But when it comes right down to it, these free services are free for a reason. And, as they say, if you’re not paying for the product, you are the product.

As the internet matures, some business owners are reversing this trend. (Some never went in for it in the first place).

I semi-regularly hear of someone proactively doing away with cookies on their site altogether. Placing privacy above deep tracking and retargeting.

And I respect that.

People like Paul Jarvis, who runs Fathom Analytics (privacy-first analytics software).

And Nathalie Lussier (an old SNAP client!), who runs AccessAlly (a WordPress plugin for scaling online businesses). She sent out an email today with the subject line “No Cookies Here!” announcing they’d ditched them.

I replied to ask how because I’d love to do the same, but don’t know what to do. (I’m not a huge tech person.)

One of her team members replied right away, saying they found which cookies were active on their site using Sitechecker’s cookie-checker tool.

Which seems like a pretty good place to start!

Sharing this because it’s Tactical Tuesday.

Eating my privacy greens,
